Drosophila are sold in living cultures and are an ideal species for behaviour and genetics studies. White eyed fruit flies are able to see but have white eyes (unlike the red-eyed wild type). Chromosomal position: sex linked. Small cultures and segregated flies are supplied in glass specimen tubes, large cultures are supplied in large plastic tubes.
Small cultures: contain approximately 30 specimens as well as eggs, larvae and pupae
Large cultures: contain approximately 80 specimens as well as eggs, larvae and pupae
Males: contain approximately 30 specimens
Virgin females: contain approximately 30 specimens
100 adults: contain approximately 100 adults, both male and female
